Not a full defense, but what he was talking about was FDR’s fireside chat #1 (March 12, 1933) dealing with the aftermath of the stock market crash.

He didn’t say “right after the stock market crash”
FDR did inherit the mess from the stock market crash.
The “TV” instead of “Radio” remark was a bit bone-headed though.
